It's live and in the world! You, yes you can now read the entirety of @elephantsandteamagazine's March 2023 magazine: ”The Unseen Challenges of Survivorship.”
I'm honored to have been included in this issue. Survivorship is a bramble, but we're working through it thorn by thorn, story by story. My essay is “The First Rule of Cancer Club.”

I’m grateful to have work included in a show currently at Keck School of Medicine of USC.

The pandemic has kept in-person shows from happening for almost two years, so #ArtistInResidence Ted Meyer has curated a “Best Of” show to welcome the gallery and the #ArtAndMed program back. The show includes work by artists that have shown at the gallery through the #HEALProgram during the last six years.

If you missed our talk or got caught up in Zoom mishaps, you can now check it out!

I’m so grateful to have an essay in the latest issue of Elephants and Tea Magazine.

CW/TW: my piece is titled ‘Cancer and Weight,’ and deals with #weight, #EatingDisorders, #BodyImage, #diets, #starvation, and cancer.

This September 2021 issue, “Living My Best Life” looks at “What does living your best life mean to you? That's a loaded question for anyone, but especially for those in the AYA cancer community. As patients and survivors, we deal with treatment, long term side effects, scanxiety, and being monitored for years after diagnosis; we learn to adapt to this lifestyle, whether we like it or not. This issue is filled with a variety of perspectives on what it is to live your best life in the midst of or after cancer. We hope you walk away from reading this issue knowing that you can live your best life where you are in this very moment. You bring your own perspective to this world, and it is valuable.

Living your best life is unique to you, and only you can decide what that looks like. We hope you can learn from this issue and continue to live your own best life, whatever that looks like for you.”

Seven years!

I’m spending my #cancerversary like I always do: being indulgent and kind to myself.

I also have a new essay up on Medium today all about how we (don’t) compensate patients adequately for their labor. Give it a read!

I’m so excited to come out with a new video, ‘SPECTRUM!’

On this National Coming Out Day of 2020, I couldn’t be more proud to release this video which, inspired by Derek Jarman’s 1993 film ‘Blue,’ draws from art history, from queer history, from my personal history, and from our collective Covid-19 history.

I had hopes for this piece when I conceived of it, but still my collaborators made it come out better than I ever could have hoped! What can I say? I’ve got talented friends. Infinite gratitude to K. Andrew Turner (http://kandrewturner.com/), Dominic Quagliozzi (https://www.artistdominic.com/), Andrew K. Currey (https://www.andrewkcurrey.com/home), Sarah (SK) Riley (@sarahshirazee), and Andrew Thoernson for their time, their eloquence and their support of this project from the beginning.

Dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community, sick and disabled people, and all of the lives and loved ones lost to Covid-19.

You can now read the short poem I wrote about #COVID19.

Thank you as always Blanket Sea Magazine and Alana Saltz for supporting my work.

May 11, 2020

I read this piece for our AYA Oncology at USC group during our inaugural virtual open mic night last week.

'Thoughts On + An Ode To: Vomit' is an essay that's been in the works for a while, but is just now finished. Enjoy... depending on your relationship to the content!

(Heading image is a combination of screenshots graciously captured from Micol Hebron's 1999 'Fountains.')

CW- lots of vomit talk

Proud to be one of the patients interviewed by Ted Meyer for Our Heart Speaks. Check it out!

(Location: Jennifer Diamond Cancer Resource Library- an amazing space for AYA’s or anyone even tangentially connected to cancer. Shirt from Sawbones. Necklace by artist Peggy Skemp.)

Artist and cancer survivor illustrates the power of the human spirit to shine through in this engaging interview between Siobhan Hebron and artist Ted Meyer.

I wrote a sexy thang y’all!

Cancer and sex needs to be a way bigger topic of conversation for patients, and frankly the public, than it currently is.⠀

Cancer and Sex(ual Appeal) is an essay I wrote for my #FiveYearProject and is now gratefully featured on @killerandasweetthang!

I am thrilled to release my Five Years Project on the 5 year anniversary of my diagnosis!

Who knew where that call from the doctor would lead me... thanks a million to Erica Lupinacci and gang for including me and for the chance to glitz and glam, true Hollywood #illionaire style!

From Erica: "Suffering the Silence was featured in this week's episode of the AwesomenessTV Mobilize series! We got to celebrate ourselves and our small every-day victories, which I know I often forget to do when living with a chronic illness. I was lucky enough to spend the day with Madison Kloeber, Julie Flygare, Siobhan Hebron, Gianna Gravalese, and Stephanie Ordaz. These women are EVERYTHING and were so open and kind. Thank you for being a part of this and sharing your experience with us, I'm eternally grateful.

Mobilize, presented by Visible, is an AwesomenessTV original series that connects with young activists who founded organizations that bring social good to their communities. Rickey Thompson, Aaron Burriss (LazyRon Studios) and Alyson Stoner meet up with Erica Lupinacci from Suffering the Silence, a non-profit that that's trying to raise awareness for people living with chronic illnesses and disabilities.

TwoSixtyNine was a durational piece I did in 2017 for the Los Angeles iteration of the Terrain Biennial in which I fell the distance that Ana Mendieta fell to her death. It was formed from a passage in Naked by the Window: “Later, a physicist would calculate that Ana had fallen 269 feet in 4.21 seconds; at the moment of impact, her velocity was 120 miles per hour. As a result, almost all her bones were shattered and all her major organs lacerated, including her brain and her heart.”

The performance lasted 90 minutes. Thank you to Allison Stewart for all performance documentation.
